Gaining a couple of pounds during the holidays is completely normal, but if you tend to gain more weight than you’d like each holiday season you may want to implement new habits.
1. Drink plenty of water.
Drinking water will cause you to be more full and in turn eat less. If you drink a glass of water before every meal, you’ll be unable to consume as many calories as you would have before. If you have a weakness for sweets, be sure to drink a glass of water before you indulge. There are also plenty of delicious drinks during the holidays, so to avoid indulging too much or dehydrating by drinking more alcohol than usual, drink a little water before and after these drinks.
2. Fill up on fruits and veggies.
When you’re filling your plate with holiday goodies, make sure that you fill half of the plate with healthy choices. Fruits and veggies, like water, will fill you up so that you don’t eat too much of the high-calorie foods. You should still enjoy the holiday foods, but in smaller quantities. You don’t have to deprive yourself of holiday goodies completely.
3. Make exercise a priority.
The holidays can be a very busy and stressful time, but that’s the perfect reason to make time for exercise. Exercise is a great stress reliever and will also help you keep off of the holiday pounds that are liable to creep up on you. If you can only lift weights while watching your favourite show in the evenings or doing crunches during commercials, that’s better than no exercise at all.
The habits that will help you keep the pounds off during the holidays are the exact same ones that you can use all year round. Don’t stop doing them just because the holidays are over. Making these habit’s a part of your daily life will benefit you the entire year.
